Climate and Weather

The Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” have a unique climate due to their high elevation and proximity to the equator. The weather in the Rwenzori Mountains is characterized by cool temperatures and high rainfall throughout the year.

Dry Season (December to February, June to September)

  • The mountains have a tropical montane climate, with temperatures decreasing as you ascend to higher altitudes. At the lower slopes, temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), while at higher elevations, temperatures can drop below freezing.

Wet Season (March to May, October to November)

Rainfall is abundant in the Rwenzori Mountains, with an average annual precipitation of over 2,500 millimeters (98 inches). The wettest months are usually March to May and September to December, while the drier months are January to February and June to August.
