Itinerary

Day 1Arriving at Kigali International Airport

After arriving at Kigali International Airport, you will meet our guide, and from there; the guide will drive you to Musanze (Ruhengeri). Upon reaching you will check in at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Laplame Hotel/hotel Muhabura for overnight and Dinner.

Day 2Gorilla Tracking

Very early in the morning at around 6 am have breakfast and then head to the park headquarters at Kinigi with packed lunch for briefing and to be assigned the specific group to track. Tracking can take about two to four hours depending on the type of group you are going to track. In the evening after relaxing a bit head to Muko village which is the home of the Ndifatanye Momahoro association, a collection of seven women who show travelers how baskets are woven and banana beer fermented. Here you need to pay for an interpreter since these women do not know how to speak English. Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 3Parc National Des Volcano to Mgahinga National Park

Early in the morning, after breakfast the hotel connects to Uganda (Mgahinga National Park). Have lunch at Chameleon Lodge/Lake Mutanda Resort. In the evening after relaxing, you go for the Batwa trail where the Batwa guides will explain to you how they used to be in the forest before it was gazetted to a national park, hunting techniques, their songs and dance, and more ways of life. For sure visiting these people will not be a loss in your life. Dinner and overnight at Chameleon Lodge/Lake Mutanda Resort/Kisoro Traveler Hotel.

Day 4Mgahinga to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early in the morning at around 7:30 am, you will head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch, where you will be briefed on the dos and don’ts in the park. After, continue with the guides to see the unique animals. Although here it takes longer to reach the gorillas the going is much easier and the photography is usually better because the gorillas are often found in the open. From tracking, rest a bit, and then after the driver will you to National Park. You will pass via the Ishasha area where if lucky you might see tree-climbing lions en route. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Lodge/Enganzi Lodge/Bush Lodge.

Day 5Game drive, Queen Elizabeth National Park

In the morning after breakfast, head for a game drive at Kasenyi where you will enjoy viewing the morning raisers like elephants, antelopes, lions, and many more. Have lunch and relax at the lodge. In the evening continue for the launch cruise at Kazinga channel between Lake George and Edward. On this cruise animals like hippos, buffaloes, and birds like fish eagles, and pelicans will be seen. Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 6Queen to Semliki National Park

After breakfast from the lodge, the driver will drive you to Semliki National Park; you will have a stopover in Fort Portal and have lunch at Garden Restaurant. Upon reaching check-in at Semliki safari lodge. From there, go for the walking trail (Red Monkey trail) which ends at the Semliki River that forms the border between Uganda and Congo. Dinner and overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge.

Day 7Semliki to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, the guide will take you to Semliki Hot Springs. (steamy sulfur hot springs) There are two where the female is more accessible than two and where the women from the Bamaga clan would make sacrifices to the gods before bathing naked in the natural springs. Your guide can demonstrate the temperature of the water by boiling an egg. The male hot spring is where the men carry out their sacrificial rituals and it is accessed via a muddy forest trail with plenty of primates and birdlife along the way. From here the guide will drive to Kibale Forest National Park and have a stopover in Fort Portal for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Kyaninga Lodge/Mountain of the Moon Hotel/Kibale Forest Camp.

Day 8Kibale Chimpanzees Tracking

Early in the morning, after breakfast at the camp, continue chimpanzee tracking in the forest. At Kibale forest, there is 90% of finding these unique relatives of ours and it is the most popular place for chimpanzee tracking in Uganda, here though there are plenty of hills, walking isn’t difficult if you are in shape. Lunch, in the evening, go for bird watching at Bigodi wetland sanctuary. This starts from the visitor center at Kanyanchu. Bigodi is home to about 200 species of birds as well as butterflies and eight different species of primates including the grey-cheeked Mangabey all these if lucky might be seen along the trail. Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 9Kibale to Murchison Falls National Park.

In the morning after breakfast from the camp, the driver will drive to Falls National Park. You will have a stopover at Masindi for lunch and proceed. Note that on this day no activity will take place since traveling takes up the whole day. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Lodge/Murchison River Lodge/Fort Murchison Camp.

Day 10Murchison Falls National Park

Early in the morning, after breakfast at the camp, the guide will take you for a game drive at the Biligi area on the point between Albert and Victoria Niles. Here chances of spitting lions and leopards are quite good. From there, return to the camp for lunch. In the evening, proceed for the launch cruise where abundant hippos, crocodile buffaloes, and thousands of birds including many fish eagles can be seen. After the cruise, continue to the top of the fall which is the most spectacular thing to happen to the Nile along its 6700km length. The 50 m river is squeezed through this narrow gorge with unbelievable power. Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 11Game Drives

Early in the morning, after breakfast, go for a walking trail from the top to bottom of the river the upper stretch of this path offers views of Uhuru Falls which the boat is not able to get close enough to appreciate, so the trail will give the complete Murchison falls experience. Return to a red chill rest camp for lunch. In the evening after relaxing, go for nature walks along the north bank of the Nile by Paraa safari lodge. It is popular with birds like white-napped pigeons. Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 12Murchison to Kampala

In the morning, after breakfast, the guide will take and visit the Bomu women’s group just before the Kanchumbanyobo gate. This small setup offers a chance to learn how rural Ugandans live, their meals, souvenirs like baskets, and others. From here the driver will drive you back to Kampala having a stopover in Masindi for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Serena Hotel/Cassia Lodge/New Madagascar Hotel.

Day 13Drive to Kampala

In the morning, after breakfast at your hotel, the driver will drive you back to Kampala to the hotel or airport depending on the time of your flight.
